Community Involvement
Amy´s volunteer work in her community is solely focused on organizations which encourage, support and develop women and young people as leaders.

The Women´s Fund of Western Massachusetts is a fundraising and grantmaking organization. Its mission is to support programs that serve to empower and enrich the lives of women and girls in Western Massachusetts. Amy was on their Board of Directors from 2000 to 2006, and was awarded the Northwestern Mutual Community Service Award for her volunteer work.  As a result, the Women´s Fund received a $10,000 grant.  As Chair of the 10th Anniversary Celebration, Amy and her committee helped raise over $125,000 for The Women´s Fund.

Amy Jamrog is a Trustee of The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts. The Community Foundation of Western Massachsetts administers a charitable endowment consisting of approximately 470 separately identified funds ($85 million) serving the three counties in Western Massachusetts.  Each fund was contributed by one or more generous donors who wished to make a difference, on a local scale, in those communities. Amy was recently acknowledged in the Community Foundation's Annual Report.  She and a local attorney teamed up to help a couple make a complicated gift to the Foundation to establish a donor advised fund, all while keeping the donors' generosity anonymous.

Amy is also a Trustee of  The Ronald McDonald House . The Ronald McDonald House is a non-profit organization with a mission to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. The organization accomplishes this by providing the financial means for families to stay together during the healing process of their child’s illness.

The Jamrog Group generously sponsors many local organizations including the Hot Chocolate Run, a road race in Northampton which raises money to prevent domestic violence, The Garden: Center for Grieving Children, a non-profit agency providing support to young people and their families dealing with the loss of a loved one, and The Women's Fund of Western Massachusetts, serving as a corporate underwriter for events throughout the calendar year.

Steve Forbes and John Schlifske on
"Econo-ME: Ensuring Your Financial Security in the New Normal”

Northwestern Mutual hosted a speaker series with Steve Forbes, chairman and editor in chief of Forbes Media and John Schlifske, Northwestern Mutual chairman and CEO. The three day tour saw over 4,000 attendees in total and included panel discussions in Miami and Palm Beach, FL; Washington, DC; Hartford, CT; Raleigh and Charlotte, NC; and Milwaukee, WI. In Hartford, where there were over 600 in attendance, Steve and John discussed their thoughts on the economy, the markets, and how individuals and business owners can ensure financial security in the new normal. Key insights presented at the events were:

  • Managing risk is the cornerstone of financial security for individuals and families in today’s economy. According to Schlifske, a foundation of risk management is the key to protecting yourself and those you care about against the financial challenges that occur when people live too long, die too soon or become sick or injured.
  • Unforeseen threats will continue to affect our national economy. Natural disasters such as the earthquake in Japan or unrest in the Middle East impact today’s consumers. However, Schlifske and Forbes agree that our nation’s economy will continue to overcome these obstacles in the long-term based on our markets and infrastructure.
  • The fundamentals of financial security to build wealth include long-term savings. Forbes recommends that consumers stick with the basics such as putting money away week after week and working with a trusted advisor on a holistic plan.
